Change the question without starting over.

Analyses are rarely right first time — you see the answer and realise you asked slightly the wrong thing. Modifying keeps everything that was already correct and changes only what you want changed.

  1. Start from what existsAn analysis you already have, with its data, its method and its output intact.
  2. Say what should be differentAdd a variable, split by a new group, change the outcome, tighten a threshold. In plain language, as before.
  3. A fresh build, seeded from the parentYour change becomes a new build seeded from the original — the original is never touched, and what you trusted is re-verified, not assumed.
  4. The lineage is keptThe original stays intact and the new version records what changed. You can always show which answer came from which question.

Why not just start again?

Because you would lose the comparison. Rebuilding from scratch gives you two answers with no guarantee they were produced the same way — modifying gives you two answers that differ only where you intended.
